Description
This classic two-story single-family home is nestled in a historic area with unique preservation guidelines that challenged our designers to blend the best of modern living with the traditional architecture of Coral Gables. The exterior of Medina House was designed to meaningfully relate to the area’s character while pushing into a contemporary Mediterranean style. Notably, the carport’s arch follows the same geometry of the Grenada Entrance, a nearby historical landmark, with lush, overflowing greenery on its roof, a common element in Mediterranean architecture.
The front of the house is accentuated with an extruded archway that presents the key features of the exterior: elegant white stucco contrasted with dark, earth-toned Spanish clay tiles that lie on a sprawling form that grows behind the entrance. Each ‘growth’ of this form creates an iconic Mediterranean silhouette against Miami’s tropical vegetation with their roof eaves and trim molding.
Without any bounding fence and just a few steps above the ground, the back of Medina House intentionally fosters a strong connection with nature. The ground floor’s rear covered-terrace creates a flexible space for outdoor living, featuring a barbeque area that flows seamlessly from the indoor kitchen with glass doors that blur the line between indoor and outdoor activity.
